2 Days Gorilla Trekking from Kigali to Bwindi
Tour Overview
This two-day safari provides one of the most convenient ways to experience mountain gorilla trekking in Uganda while starting and ending in Rwanda. The itinerary is designed for travelers with limited time who want to encounter endangered gorillas without long travel distances. By beginning in Kigali, the journey to southwestern Uganda becomes significantly shorter compared to traveling from Entebbe, allowing more time for relaxation and preparation before the trekking experience.
The adventure combines scenic drives through Rwanda’s rolling hills and Uganda’s highland landscapes with the unforgettable experience of trekking through ancient rainforest to meet a habituated gorilla family. Despite its short duration, the safari delivers one of Africa’s most powerful wildlife encounters.

Detailed Itinerary: 2 Days Gorilla Trekking from Kigali to Bwindi
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Your safari begins with pickup from Kigali followed by a scenic drive toward the Uganda border. After completing immigration formalities, you continue into southwestern Uganda toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its population of endangered mountain gorillas.
The drive takes approximately four to five hours depending on the sector visited, passing through rural villages, terraced hillsides, and lush highland scenery. Upon arrival at your lodge near the forest, you receive a briefing about gorilla trekking procedures, conservation rules, and safety guidelines. The remainder of the day is spent relaxing while enjoying views of the rainforest canopy and surrounding mountains.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Return to Kigali
After an early breakfast, you proceed to the park headquarters for registration and a detailed briefing from experienced rangers. Trekking groups are assigned based on fitness level and gorilla family location before entering the dense forest accompanied by trackers and guides.
The trek may last from one to several hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. Along the way, guides interpret the forest ecosystem, pointing out birds, plants, and other wildlife species. Once the gorilla family is located, you spend one magical hour observing them at close range. Watching the dominant silverback, playful juveniles, and nurturing mothers interact creates a deeply emotional and unforgettable wildlife encounter.
After the trek, you return to the lodge for lunch before beginning the drive back to Kigali. Upon arrival in the evening, you are transferred to your hotel or the airport for your onward flight, marking the end of a remarkable short gorilla safari experience.
