Detailed Itinerary: 8 Days Congo Gorillas and Nyiragongo Safari
Day 1: Arrival in Goma
Arrival at Goma International Airport and transfer to your lodge. Depending on arrival time, settle in or explore the city briefly.
Evening briefing on the upcoming gorilla trek and volcano climb. Overnight in Goma.
Day 2: Transfer to Virunga National Park
After breakfast, drive to Virunga National Park. The park is Africa’s oldest and one of the most biodiverse, encompassing dense forests, volcanic mountains, and savannah plains.
Afternoon at the lodge or short forest walk to acclimate and enjoy the scenic surroundings. Overnight near the park headquarters.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park
Morning briefing before trekking to a habituated gorilla family. Navigate dense rainforest under the guidance of experienced rangers.
Spend one regulated hour observing the gorillas. Experience silverbacks, playful juveniles, and mothers with infants in their natural habitat. Return to the lodge for rest.
Day 4: Additional Gorilla Trek or Golden Monkey Tracking
Optional second gorilla trek or golden monkey tracking for those interested in further primate encounters.
Afternoon relaxation at the lodge or short guided nature walks. Overnight in Virunga.
Day 5: Scenic Transfer to Mount Nyiragongo Base
Drive to the base of Mount Nyiragongo near Goma. Prepare for the volcano hike with a briefing and safety instructions.
Evening hike to the volcano summit. Reach the lava lake at night for spectacular glowing views. Overnight in a nearby lodge or camp.
Day 6: Summit Descent and Hot Springs Visit
Descend Mount Nyiragongo after sunrise to witness panoramic views of the surrounding Virunga landscape.
Optional visit to nearby hot springs and local villages. Return to Goma for overnight.
Day 7: Cultural and Community Experiences
