Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara

A transfer into the reserve is followed by an afternoon game drive to get an early sense of where the herds and predators have been active.

Day 2: Masai Mara Game Drives

A full day exploring different sections of the reserve, from the river crossing points to the quieter conservancies on its borders, in search of the migrating herds. Afternoon light tends to bring out different activity than the morning drive, with many predators only becoming visibly active again as temperatures start to drop.

Day 3: Masai Mara Game Drives

Extended game drives continue, with your guide focusing on areas of heightened lion and hyena activity typically drawn by the migrating herds during this season. The Mara Triangle’s terrain, more hilly and varied than the reserve’s open plains further east, often rewards a slower, more deliberate driving pace.

Day 4: Masai Mara Game Drives

A further full day in the reserve rounds out your migration viewing and Big Five sightings, with time built in to simply wait near active areas. Because this is the final game drive before departure, guides generally prioritize confirming any Big Five species still missing from the trip’s sightings so far.

Day 5: Transfer to Lake Nakuru

A drive to Lake Nakuru National Park is followed by a game drive focused on the park’s black and white rhino population.

Day 6: Return to Nairobi & Departure

A final morning at Lake Nakuru precedes the drive back to Nairobi for your onward departure. Because this itinerary runs on a tighter schedule, the return drive is generally planned with extra buffer time built in for Nairobi’s often unpredictable traffic.
