4 Days Northern Serengeti Migration River Crossing Safari

Rather than covering the whole Serengeti ecosystem, this 4-day itinerary heads directly for the northern Serengeti, where the Mara River crossings typically take place between roughly July and September. Because this itinerary spans the calving season specifically, roughly late January through March, confirming current herd position with your operator closer to travel is still worth doing given some year-to-year variation.

4 Days Northern Serengeti Migration River Crossing Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Northern Serengeti

A flight or long drive brings you directly into the Kogatende area of the northern Serengeti, putting you close to the crossing points from the first full day.

Day 2: Mara River Crossing Points

A full day is spent near known crossing sites, with time built in to simply wait near the riverbank when herds are gathering, since crossings can happen with little warning.

Day 3: Mara River Crossing Points

Game drives continue along the river and surrounding plains, following recent activity reports from other vehicles and guides in the area.

Day 4: Return to Arusha

The flight or drive back to Arusha closes out the safari. The drive back climbs out of the Serengeti ecosystem through the same highland route used on arrival, with buffer time built in for the airport.
