5 Days Wildebeest Migration & Big Five Combo Safari

This 5-day itinerary balances two goals that don’t always align: following the wildebeest migration in the Serengeti, and giving yourself a genuine shot at the Big Five with a day in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Because this is a short, fly-in itinerary, your operator will generally choose the specific airstrip based on the migration’s most recent reported position closer to your travel date.

5 Days Wildebeest Migration & Big Five Combo Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Serengeti National Park

This leg crosses from the highlands into open grassland, with an afternoon game drive timed to catch the last of the day’s light while your guide confirms current migration reports.

Day 2: Full Day Migration Tracking

A full day follows the herds across the plains based on their current position that season.

Day 3: Full Day Migration Tracking

Game drives continue in search of the migration and the predators that follow it.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater

A descent onto the crater floor adds a reliable chance at rhino, one of the harder Big Five sightings to guarantee elsewhere in Tanzania, alongside dense populations of lion, elephant, and buffalo. Access to the crater floor is limited to a set number of vehicles per day, a rule intended to protect the fragile ecosystem within its walls.

Day 5: Return to Arusha

The drive retraces the outbound route through the highlands, with Arusha marking the end of the safari. The return leg typically passes back through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area’s boundary, a last chance to spot wildlife before reaching the main highway to Arusha.
