Detailed Itinerary: 4 Days Uganda Gorilla and Chimpanzee Tour
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
Your safari begins with pickup from your hotel or the airport in Entebbe or Kampala, followed by a scenic drive west toward Kibale Forest. The journey passes tea plantations, crater lakes, rural villages, and the beautiful landscapes of western Uganda. You will arrive in the Fort Portal region in the afternoon, surrounded by rolling hills and farmland near the rainforest.
After checking into your lodge, you may relax or take an optional community walk depending on arrival time. Dinner and overnight near Kibale Forest.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Transfer to Bwindi Forest
After an early breakfast, you report to the park headquarters for a briefing before entering the forest to search for habituated chimpanzee families. The trek offers opportunities to observe chimpanzees feeding, grooming, playing, and communicating through vocal calls and gestures. Kibale also hosts numerous other primates, birds, and forest wildlife species.
After lunch, you begin the journey south toward Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, traveling through scenic highlands, terraced hills, and local communities. Arrival is usually in the evening with dinner and overnight at your lodge near the forest.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi
Following an early breakfast, you transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing by rangers from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. You will then begin your trek through dense rainforest terrain accompanied by guides and trackers searching for a habituated gorilla family. Trek duration varies depending on their location, ranging from one to several hours.
Once the gorillas are located, you spend one unforgettable hour observing their behavior at close range. Watching the gentle giants interact within their family groups is often described as one of the most powerful wildlife experiences on Earth. After returning to the lodge, you relax and enjoy the evening surrounded by the forest environment.
Day 4: Return to Entebbe or Kampala
After breakfast, you begin the return journey to Entebbe or Kampala, passing through Uganda’s scenic countryside with optional stops for photography or refreshments along the way. Arrival is scheduled for late afternoon or evening, with drop-off at your hotel or the airport for departure.
