Kibale Lodge

Kibale Lodge borders Kibale Forest National Park, home to the highest concentration and diversity of primates found anywhere in East Africa, including a well-habituated chimpanzee population that draws most visitors to the area in the first place.

Location

The lodge sits close enough to the park boundary that chimpanzee trekking and the more involved habituation experience — which allows longer, closer time with a chimp community than a standard trek — are both easily reached each morning without a long transfer.

What to Expect

Beyond chimpanzees, Kibale holds eleven other primate species, so guided forest walks from the lodge often turn up red colobus, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and L’Hoest’s monkeys alongside the birdlife the forest is also known for. It makes a natural stop between Queen Elizabeth National Park and the Bwindi gorilla sector.
