Nyerere national park Entrance Fees & Park Rules

Nyerere national park is a famous wildlife destination and park in Tanzania for being the largest protected area in the country, the park is formerly the northern part of Game reserve is also one of the world’s largest wildlife sanctuaries and national parks covering an area of 30,83 square kilometers.

Nyerere national park fees are changed basing on the residency status of the tourist visiting the park while on a Tanzania safari there are three fee categories that is East Africa Citizens, Residents and Non residents.

Note: The following Nyerere national park fees are applicable for 2022 and they are subject to change anytime.

Note

  • Some of the well-known lodges and camps are located inside Nyerere national park and they include Serena Mivumo River Lodge, Selous Serena Camp, Mbuyu Safari Camp, Beho Beho Camp, Stiegler’s Gorge Camp, Rufiji River Camp and Sand Rivers. These safari lodges and camps are best accessed from Mteremi and Matembwe Gates, as a guest staying at one of the lodges. The rate of USD 50 per adult per 24 hours applies.
  • East Africa Citizen rates are applicable to residents of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan and Burundi. These kind of visitors are required to present their National IDs for the Tanzanian citizens, other requirements include passport, working permit or appropriate visas to prove resident states at the entrance of the park. Visitors with no valid passports or IDs will be required to pay the non-resident rates.
  • Child rates are applicable to persons aged 5 – 15 years, persons under the age of 5 are free of age
  • Student rates are applicable to persons aged up to 23 years old, visiting the park on a pre arranged school-organized trip, sponsored by a recognized learning institution and in possession of a valid student ID. Students must obtain permission to use these special rates at least 2 weeks in advance of their visit to Nyerere national park.

Nyerere National Park Rules

In Nyerere national park, various park rules were put in place to ensure that tourists enjoy their safari without any harm to either them or the wildlife. Visitors are recommended to rrspect the Nyerere national park rules and officials who are there to protect the visitors,Tanzania tours and the environment. Nyerere national park rules are as follows

  • Driving in the park is only allowed between 6 am and 6 pm
  • The driving speed limit in the park is 50 km/h
  • Animals always have the right of way
  • Feeding animals is not allowed, feeding them will upset their diet which can lead to an unnecessary dependence on people
  • Always keep on the authorized tracks only
  • Do not pick, cut or destroy any vegetation or remove any object of biological interest including eggs, bones and trophies
  • Camping inside the park is only allowed in designated sites
  • Picnicking is allowed only at designated sites
  • Do not liter, always keep your waste in the vehicle until it can be properly disposed off later at your lodge or camp, litter can choke or poison animals and birds.
  • Smoking inside the park is not allowed as a burning cigarette can start a wild fire that can cause damage to vegetation and sufferings to wildlife and people.
  • Do not light or cause fire to be lit, when camping, be sure to extinguish your fire carefully
  • All visitors must remain in their vehicle within 200 meters of any animal, leaving the vehicles in the park is forbidden except in designated places.
  • Domestic pets are not allowed into the park
  • Operating or using drones is not allowed in Nyerere national park
  • Drivers are discouraged from approaching the animals too close, these animals such as lions, cheetahs and leopards are nervous animals and a vehicle can hinder their hunting or make them leave their hard earned meal. If a driver does this, he may be banned from the area or lose this job.

How to Pay / Mode of Payment

Payments to Nyerere national park are accepted in Cash in US Dollar or Tanzania shillings at the entry gates, cashless modes are also accepted and they can be made via Visa and Mastercard. When making these payments nationals of East african countries member states are required to produce their passports or national IDs at entry gate to be eligible to cheaper E.A rates.
