Detailed Itinerary: 10 Days Group Uganda Safaris wildlife and Primates

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe – Welcome to Uganda

Your safari begins upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport near the shores of Lake Victoria. After airport pickup, you transfer to your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala for relaxation and briefing. This introductory evening allows group members to meet, review safari expectations, and prepare for the journey ahead. Depending on arrival time, a short visit to the lakeshore or botanical gardens may be arranged.

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

After breakfast, the group departs north toward Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and oldest conservation area. The drive passes through rural countryside and small trading centers, offering insight into local life. Upon arrival, an afternoon game drive introduces you to Uganda’s northern savannah wildlife. Rothschild’s giraffes, elephants, buffalo, antelope species, and lions inhabit these expansive plains divided by the Nile River.

Day 3: Murchison Falls Game Drive and Nile Boat Safari

The morning begins with an early game drive across the park’s open grasslands. Predators such as lions and hyenas are often active during cooler hours, while giraffes and elephants roam in large numbers. In the afternoon, a boat safari along the Victoria Nile leads to the base of the powerful Murchison Falls. Crocodiles, hippos, and abundant birdlife line the riverbanks, culminating in views of the Nile squeezing through a narrow gorge before plunging dramatically.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park – Into Primate Territory

Today the group journeys southwest toward Kibale National Park, passing through scenic landscapes of tea plantations and crater lakes. The drive offers changing ecological zones as you transition from savannah to rainforest. Kibale is internationally recognized for its high concentration of primates. Evening relaxation at the lodge prepares you for the next day’s chimpanzee tracking experience.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale National Park

Morning chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park offers an exhilarating primate encounter. Guided by experienced rangers, you trek through dense forest in search of habituated chimpanzee communities. Once located, you observe their dynamic social behavior, vocal communication, and movement through the canopy. Kibale also hosts red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and a variety of forest birds, enriching the biodiversity experience.

Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

The journey continues south to Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s most diverse ecosystems. The park’s landscape features savannah plains, wetlands, crater lakes, and the Kazinga Channel. An evening game drive introduces you to Uganda kob, buffalo, elephants, and possibly leopards. The park’s ecological diversity supports over 600 bird species, making it a birding hotspot.

Day 7: Kazinga Channel Boat Safari and Ishasha Sector

A morning boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel provides close encounters with hippos, crocodiles, and water birds. The channel connects Lake Edward and Lake George and supports dense wildlife populations along its shores. Later, the group proceeds to the Ishasha sector, famous for its tree-climbing lions. Observing lions resting in fig trees offers a rare behavioral spectacle unique to this region of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 8: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Today you travel into the mountainous rainforest region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The landscape shifts dramatically to mist-covered hills and dense vegetation. Evening preparation includes a detailed gorilla trekking briefing from your guide. Group members are reminded of conservation guidelines and physical requirements for the trek.

Day 9: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

This is the highlight of the safari: mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi. After attending the official park briefing, groups are assigned to specific gorilla families and guided into the forest. The trek can take several hours depending on the gorillas’ location, but the reward is extraordinary. Spending one regulated hour observing a gorilla family—led by a dominant silverback—creates a profound wildlife experience unmatched anywhere else in Africa.

Day 10: Return to Entebbe – Departure

After breakfast, the group begins the return journey to Entebbe, passing through scenic countryside and equatorial landscapes. A stop at the equator line allows for photography and souvenir shopping.
