Detailed Itinerary: 2 Days Golden Monkey Trekking
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes Region
Your safari begins with pickup from Kigali followed by a scenic drive toward Volcanoes National Park, located in the Virunga Mountain range. The journey takes approximately two to three hours, passing through Rwanda’s famous rolling hills, rural communities, and terraced farmland that define the country’s landscape.
Upon arrival near the park, you check into your lodge and receive a briefing about the next day’s trekking procedures, including conservation guidelines, safety protocols, and what to expect during the forest hike. The afternoon can be spent relaxing while enjoying views of the surrounding volcanoes or visiting nearby cultural villages to learn about local traditions.
Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking and Return
After an early breakfast, you proceed to the park headquarters for registration and a ranger briefing before entering the forest with experienced guides. The trek leads through bamboo forests and volcanic terrain where golden monkeys live in large social groups.
Golden monkeys are known for their striking golden-orange fur, playful nature, and energetic movements, making them excellent subjects for photography. Once the troop is located, you spend time observing their behavior as they feed, leap between branches, and interact socially within the group.
After the trek, you return to the lodge for lunch before beginning the drive back to Kigali for your onward travel arrangements. The safari concludes with memorable encounters with one of Africa’s most unique primates and the stunning landscapes of the Virunga region.
