Detailed Itinerary: 6 Days Gorilla Trekking & Murchison Falls Safari
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, meet your guide and begin the journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The scenic drive passes rolling hills, tea plantations, and rural villages.
Check in at your lodge near the park boundary and receive a briefing on gorilla trekking procedures. The evening offers relaxation amidst the cool, misty forest environment.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for briefing and assignment to a habituated gorilla family. Trekking may last from one to several hours, depending on the family’s location.
The forest terrain includes steep slopes, dense bamboo thickets, and lush rainforest. Observing a gorilla family up close is profoundly moving: dominant silverbacks oversee their groups, mothers care for infants, and juveniles play energetically.
After spending one hour with the gorillas, return to your lodge to relax and share stories of the unforgettable encounter.
Day 3: Optional Nature Walks or Cultural Visit
The third day offers flexibility. You may opt for a nature walk in the forest to observe other wildlife such as monkeys, birds, and rare plants.
Alternatively, visit a local Batwa community to gain cultural insights and learn about traditional forest-based lifestyles. The afternoon is reserved for rest and preparation for the journey north toward Murchison Falls.
Day 4: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park
After breakfast, travel north toward Murchison Falls National Park. The drive passes scenic landscapes, small towns, and farmland, gradually transitioning into savannah and riverine environments.
Arrive at your lodge near the Nile in the afternoon. A brief game drive may introduce you to elephants, giraffes, buffalo, and antelope grazing along the park’s plains. Dinner and overnight are at the lodge overlooking the Nile.
Day 5: Game Drive and Boat Cruise to Murchison Falls
Begin the day with an early morning game drive. The northern sector of the park is rich in wildlife, including lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, Uganda kob, and hippos along the riverbanks.
In the afternoon, take a boat cruise along the Victoria Nile to the base of Murchison Falls. Witness the Nile’s dramatic plunge and observe crocodiles, hippos, and numerous bird species along the river.
After the cruise, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Morning Game Drive and Return to Entebbe
On your final morning, enjoy a short game drive or relax at your lodge. After breakfast, depart Murchison Falls for the journey back to Entebbe.
The drive offers scenic views of Uganda’s countryside and opportunities to stop for photos or cultural experiences. Arrival in Entebbe marks the conclusion of your six-day adventure.
