Detailed Itinerary: 6-Day Uganda and Rwanda Safari Adventure
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and City Exploration
Your safari begins with arrival in Kigali, where you are welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel. Depending on arrival time, you may explore the city, including cultural landmarks, craft markets, and historical sites that provide insight into Rwanda’s history and transformation. The city’s clean environment and scenic hills offer a relaxing introduction to East Africa.
You receive a safari briefing outlining the journey ahead before enjoying dinner and overnight in Kigali.
Day 2: Transfer to Gorilla Trekking Region
After breakfast, you depart Kigali for the gorilla trekking region, traveling toward either Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda or crossing into Uganda toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park depending on permit availability and itinerary design. The scenic drive passes through rolling hills, terraced farmland, and rural communities that highlight the beauty of the region.
Upon arrival at the lodge, you receive a briefing about gorilla trekking procedures, conservation rules, and safety guidelines. The afternoon is spent relaxing while enjoying views of the surrounding mountains and forests.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking Experience
This day represents the highlight of the safari. After an early breakfast, you report to the park headquarters for registration and ranger briefing. Groups are assigned based on fitness levels and gorilla family locations before entering the forest with experienced trackers.
The trek leads through dense rainforest and mountainous terrain as guides interpret the ecosystem and point out wildlife along the way. Once the gorillas are located, you spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat. Watching a dominant silverback, playful juveniles, and nurturing mothers interacting within their family groups creates a deeply emotional wildlife encounter.
After the trek, you return to the lodge for relaxation and reflection on this extraordinary experience.
Day 4: Transfer to Uganda Wildlife Destination
Following breakfast, you transfer deeper into Uganda toward Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of the country’s most diverse wildlife reserves. The journey passes through scenic landscapes including crater lakes, savannah plains, and traditional villages.
Upon arrival, you check into your lodge and enjoy views of the park’s wilderness environment. Depending on arrival time, you may take a short evening game drive to begin exploring Uganda’s savannah wildlife.
Day 5: Wildlife Safari and Boat Experience
The day begins with an early morning game drive across the savannah plains, offering opportunities to see elephants, buffalo, antelopes, lions, and numerous bird species. The park’s diverse ecosystems support a wide range of wildlife, making each safari unique.
In the afternoon, you enjoy a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, famous for its high concentration of hippos, crocodiles, and birds along the shoreline. The boat experience provides excellent photography opportunities and close wildlife encounters before returning to the lodge for relaxation.
Day 6: Return and Departure
After breakfast, you begin the return journey to either Kigali or Entebbe depending on your departure flight arrangements. The scenic drive provides a final opportunity to appreciate the landscapes of East Africa.
Upon arrival, you transfer to the airport for your onward flight, marking the end of a memorable six-day safari adventure combining gorilla trekking, wildlife encounters, and cultural exploration across Uganda and Rwanda.
If you would like, I can also create a luxury version, add chimpanzee trekking, or extend this safari to include more national parks such as Murchison Falls or Lake Bunyonyi. Just let me know.
