5 Days Rwanda Family Gorilla Safari
August 16, 20263 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking & Kigali City Orientation
August 16, 2026For couples whose first trip together as newlyweds is also their first safari, this 4-day itinerary keeps logistics simple while adding the private transfers and boutique lodges that make a honeymoon feel distinct from a standard group tour. Rwanda’s minimum trekking age of 15 is strictly enforced, so families booking this itinerary should confirm permits alongside any alternative activity for younger travelers.
4 Days Rwanda Honeymoon Gorilla Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Private Arrival & Welcome Dinner
You’ll be met at Kigali airport by a private driver-guide and transferred to a boutique lodge, where a welcome dinner is arranged for your first evening in Rwanda. Coffee cooperatives dot the roadside on this route as well, part of Rwanda’s growing specialty coffee industry, alongside the more visible tea plantations.
Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
A scenic private drive takes you to Musanze, where you’ll check into a lodge selected for its views and boutique character rather than sheer size, with a sundowner arranged for the evening. This stretch of road was significantly upgraded in the past decade, cutting what was once a much longer, rougher journey down to a comfortable half-day drive.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking & Private Dinner
Following the standard trekking format, an early briefing and guided hike bring you face to face with a wild gorilla family for a full hour. That evening, a private candlelit dinner is arranged at your lodge to mark the occasion. The steepest, muddiest stretches tend to come in the middle third of the hike, after the trail leaves cultivated farmland and enters the true forest edge.
Day 4: Leisure Morning & Departure
With no fixed activity planned, the morning is yours to relax or arrange an optional spa treatment before your private transfer back to Kigali for your departure flight. Because transfers on this itinerary are private, the return drive can be timed flexibly around your specific flight rather than a shared group schedule.
