2 Days Kyambura Gorge Chimpanzee Trekking (Valley of the Apes)

Kyambura Gorge, nicknamed the Valley of the Apes, is a narrow, forested ravine cut into the savannah of Queen Elizabeth National Park, home to a small but resilient chimpanzee community, paired here with a savannah game drive. Kyambura Gorge’s chimp permits are limited to a small daily quota given the gorge’s narrow trail system, so this itinerary works best when the permit is confirmed well before arrival.

2 Days Kyambura Gorge Chimpanzee Trekking (Valley of the Apes) Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

You’ll be driven to Queen Elizabeth National Park, with an afternoon game drive across its open plains in search of elephant, buffalo, and the park’s famous tree-climbing lions. This stretch of road follows the edge of the Rwenzori foothills for part of the journey, giving distant views of the range on a clear day before the terrain flattens toward the park.

Day 2: Kyambura Gorge Chimpanzee Trekking & Departure

A guided descent into the gorge follows the Kyambura River in search of the resident chimpanzee community, before climbing back out to the savannah above. Your driver-guide then transfers you onward for departure. Kyambura’s gorge-bound chimp community is smaller and more contained than Kibale’s, which can make sightings quicker but slightly less guaranteed on any single visit.
