Detailed Itinerary: 7 Days Classic Rwanda Safari Experience
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – City Orientation
Arrival at Kigali International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Depending on arrival time, enjoy a city tour covering the Kigali Genocide Memorial and local craft markets.
Evening safari briefing and overnight in Kigali.
Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Drive northwest to Volcanoes National Park. The scenic journey passes through terraced hills and rural villages.
Afternoon at the lodge with optional cultural visit to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to learn about local traditions and community-based conservation initiatives. Overnight near park headquarters in Kinigi.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Early morning briefing and departure for gorilla trekking. You will track a habituated gorilla family through bamboo and montane forests.
Spend one regulated hour observing the gorillas. Witness the silverback, mothers with infants, and playful juveniles interacting in their natural habitat. Return to the lodge for rest.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, drive south to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Rwanda’s largest montane rainforest is rich in biodiversity and primate species.
Afternoon canopy walk over the forest canopy. Enjoy panoramic views and birdwatching opportunities. Overnight at a lodge near the park.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking in Nyungwe
Morning chimpanzee tracking adventure. Guided by experienced rangers, trek through dense rainforest to observe habituated chimpanzees in their natural habitat.
Optional afternoon nature walk to spot colobus monkeys, duikers, and a variety of forest bird species. Overnight near Nyungwe.
Day 6: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Drive east to Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s premier savannah park. The scenic route showcases Rwanda’s highlands and small villages.
Afternoon game drive in Akagera. The park is home to the Big Five, including lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and rhinos, as well as giraffes, zebras, and hippos. Overnight at a safari lodge within or near the park.
Day 7: Morning Game Drive and Return to Kigali – Departure
Early morning game drive in Akagera. Witness wildlife at sunrise in open savannah landscapes.
Return to Kigali in time for onward international departure. The drive offers scenic views and photo opportunities along the way.
