The safari begins with arrival in Goma, where you are welcomed by your local guide and transferred to a lodge or camp near Virunga National Park. The journey passes through volcanic landscapes, small villages, and scenic highlands, offering a glimpse of local life and the dramatic terrain that defines the park. Upon arrival, you receive a briefing on the gorilla trekking process, park regulations, safety measures, and environmental conservation guidelines. The afternoon can be spent relaxing at the lodge, enjoying panoramic views of the park, or taking a short nature walk to acclimatize to the terrain. After an early breakfast, you transfer to the park headquarters for registration and a detailed briefing by experienced rangers and trackers. Trekking time varies depending on the gorillas’ movements, usually ranging from one to several hours. Experienced trackers provide insights into gorilla behavior, ecology, and conservation challenges. After the trek, you return to the lodge for lunch before starting the journey back to Goma.
