Detailed Itinerary: 6 Days in Murchison Falls and Budongo Chimpanzees
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe and Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, meet your guide and begin the journey north toward Murchison Falls National Park. The drive passes scenic highlands, rural villages, and fertile farmlands.
Arrive at your lodge near the Victoria Nile in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight are at the lodge, preparing for the upcoming safari adventures.
Day 2: Game Drive in Murchison Falls National Park
Begin the day with an early morning game drive in the park. The northern sector of Murchison Falls is rich in wildlife, including elephants, lions, buffalo, giraffes, Uganda kob, and various antelope species.
The savannah and woodland habitats provide excellent wildlife viewing and photography opportunities. Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you may opt for a second shorter game drive or enjoy the lodge’s surroundings.
Day 3: Boat Cruise to Murchison Falls
After breakfast, embark on a boat cruise along the Victoria Nile to the base of Murchison Falls. Along the way, observe hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife.
Witness the Nile as it thunders through the narrow gorge, creating one of Uganda’s most iconic natural spectacles. The boat cruise offers unique perspectives of the falls and surrounding wildlife. Return to the lodge in the late afternoon.
Day 4: Transfer to Budongo Forest Reserve
After breakfast, depart Murchison Falls and drive south toward Budongo Forest Reserve, one of Uganda’s richest tropical forests and home to habituated chimpanzees.
Along the way, enjoy scenic countryside and local villages. Arrive at your lodge near the forest in the afternoon, where you receive a briefing on chimpanzee trekking protocols. Dinner and overnight are at the lodge.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking in Budongo Forest
After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for briefing and assignment to a habituated chimpanzee group. The trek through Budongo’s dense rainforest can last from one to several hours depending on chimpanzee movements.
Observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat as they forage, groom, and interact socially. The forest is also home to various other primates, including red-tailed monkeys and baboons, as well as diverse bird species.
After the trek, return to the lodge to relax and reflect on this intimate primate encounter. Optional nature walks or guided forest hikes can be arranged in the afternoon.
Day 6: Return to Entebbe and Departure
Following breakfast, depart Budongo Forest and drive back to Entebbe. The route passes scenic Ugandan countryside and small towns, offering opportunities for photographs and cultural encounters.
Arrival in Entebbe concludes the six-day adventure, leaving travelers with vivid memories of Uganda’s wildlife, waterfalls, and rainforest primates.
