Activities in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park: Located in the southwest of Uganda and around 8 to 9 hours’ drive away, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is well-known for housing half of the world’s population of endangered mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking is one of the park’s primary visitor attractions; additional pursuits include birdwatching, a Batwa cultural visit, and a nature walk.
A briefing on gorilla rules and regulations is given early in the morning before the incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience of gorilla trekking in Bwindi begins. Depending on where they were last seen the day before, the experience might last anywhere from thirty to seven hours. There are several forest trails that lead to stunning waterfalls, such as the Buhoma-Nkuringo trail, the Rushara hill walk trail that connects Congo and Uganda, the Muyanga waterfall walk, the Ivi River Walk, which is 14 kilometers long and takes roughly 7 hours, and the Muzubijiro Loop, a 6-kilometer walk around the hill where you may get to see primates and birds.
The park is situated in the picturesque mountainous Kigezi region. Bikes may be rented daily from the majority of Bwindi’s lodges to explore the unique pathways built by the locals. A guide will accompany you on the Ivi River Trail, which is organized by a ride for women, from Buhoma Park Headquarters to the Ivi River.
On a safari in Bwindi, you can opt for the Batwaji experience, which allows you to engage with people who once lived in the forest with the gorillas for many years. Explore the Nyundo community eco paths, King Bakyara’s waterfall route, and the Buniga woodland nature walk in Nkuringo. Visit the Buhoma Community area of interest, where you can see the primary school, handicraft stores, and learn how to make and taste banana juice.

Traveling 414 kilometers on a tarmac roadway from Kampala to Kabale, Kanungu, and Buhoma takes between 6 to 8 hours. Having a 4WD vehicle is strongly advised. Alternatively, you can begin your trip from Rwanda to Kigali by way of the Chanika border, which would take you four to five hours to get to Bwindi.
Additionally, there is a path that passes through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, which is a fantastic place to experience tree-climbing lions, and travels through Kihihi and to Buhoma.
By Air
For clients with Buhoma and Ruhija gorilla permits, Bwindi National Park may be accessed by flight from Entebbe Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip to Kihihi Airstrip. Next is Kisoro Airstrip, which serves clients trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Rushaga, and Nkuringo.
Scheduled and charter flights to the respected air strips are offered by Aero Link Uganda, which provides domestic flights from Entebbe International Airport. It takes roughly 1:15 hours to land.
Although Bwindi National Park is open year-round, the ideal times to come are during the dry seasons, which are December through February and June through August.
